Melinda's story is timeless. The book follows her as she starts her first year of high school, where she is the school outcast because she called the police during a party over the summer. What most people don't know is *why* she called the police in the first place. Melinda has a secret. Something happened to her at the party, and she is afraid to tell anyone about it. Her journey to find her voice and tell the truth is heartbreaking and painful, but ultimately rewarding. Melinda as a character is infinitely relatable to anyone who has ever experienced trauma in their life.
