The Grisha world that Bardugo has created is very different from any other fantasy you have ever read! In interviews with Bardugo, she has said that she didn't want to write just another fantasy that was set in an England-like world. Instead, she decided to create her world with Russian influences. But I think she goes further than that, because the Shu Han are distinctly Asian and the Fjerdans seem more Swiss/Swedish/Finnish (somewhere around there). However, those nationalities come more into play in her Six of Crows duology. Regardless, the world she has created is absolutely beautiful and very fun in all it's differences for a fantasy buff. I cannot get enough of the Grisha world - the books aren't long enough and there aren't enough written! I hope Bardugo continues expanding and maybe keep writing stories in this world world that move further west - we still haven't seen much of Novyi Zem... =)
