By coincidence I caught an episode of the sitcom "Frasier" yesterday, where Silverman did a brief and funny turn as an almost-patient of Dr. Frasier Crane as he attempts a (hilariously slapstick) return to private practice. Though I can't honestly call myself a "fan" of hers (being just old enough to remember when comics didn't have to be crude to get a laugh or a TV series) I am enjoying her book. The oddball title--and the cringe-inducing memories it immediately evoked--drew me to it. There are moments that are laugh-out-loud funny, and some that are achingly poignant, but more than that I admire Silverman's candor and humor in relating her painful girlhood experiences.
