The best part about this book for me was Jack's narrative. You could see him rationalizing and tucking certain thoughts away so as not to disturb his pleasant view of himself as a good guy, one who is simply misunderstood and down on his luck. He started out as a redeemable character and I enjoyed watching his mind change as the hotel environment became increasingly sinister. Danny's clairvoyance was an excellent basis for his character and the novel's overall development. The pacing was like a runaway train and I couldn't put it down. That said, there were a few spots that I found distracted from rather than developing the story and I noticed myself getting impatient. I found the story to be suspenseful and at times creepy. Some parts I found silly. Overall, the book wasn't as scary as I was expecting.
