The Tenth Anniversary Edition of the New York Times bestselling book that has sold over half a million copies in paperback. "I was addicted to "Bewitched" as a kid. I worshipped Darren Stevens the First. When he'd come home from work and Samantha would say, 'Darren, would you like me to fix you a drink?' He'd always rest his briefcase on the table below the mirror in the foyer, wipe his forehead with a monogrammed handkerchief and say, 'Better make it a double.'" (from Chapter Two)You may not know it, but you've met Augusten Burroughs. You've seen him on the street, in bars, on the subway, at restaurants: a twentysomething guy, nice suit, works in advertising. Regular. Ordinary. But when the ordinary person had two drinks, Augusten was circling the drain by having twelve; when the ordinary person went home at midnight, Augusten never went home at all. Loud, distracting ties, automated wake-up calls and cologne on the tongue could only hide so much for so...

Just an excellent read and a sad story--but with a happy ending! Love Augusten Burroughs. So very readable and hard to put down...kept me up a few late nights: "one more chapter."

I remember reading this a few years back, but then I was not able to get through the gay sex parts. Excellent book about the power of booze and the strange choices people make when crossing the lines of addiction. I am glad I read it again. Highly recommended.

Read all his books, and he keeps me up past by bedtime :)... This is one of my favorites.

The most engaging book written about giving up alcohol. A page turner. Loved it!

This is the second memoir I've read by Burroughs, and I read it in one sitting. His wit and humor make this dark tale an irresistible read, and gives readers a different look into alcoholism. I love that even though this is a hard tale to tell, he doesn't write for pity, he writes to tell the story.

While commuting I saw someone reading this book with such enthusiasm, I asked her about it. She told me it was the third of his and to read them in order.. So I went out a starting to read Running with Scissors. Once I got to this book I was also turning pages frantically while riding the subway. Along with turning pages I would laugh out loud a lot. I forgot that I was riding a NYC subway at rush hour!
