Anna and her sisters, Sophie and Trudie help their parents in The Doll Shop. As a result of the Great War (1914 - 1918), doll parts are no longer available from Germany, so their Papa and Mamma make all the parts for the dolls themselves. One day Mamma surprises them with the news that their cousin, Tania, is coming from Russia to live with them. The girls are excited to meet their cousin but Tania is so shy and nervous that the girls soon leave her alone. After Anna spots a Ginger cat and her injured kitten, she begs Papa to let them keep the cats but he refuses to allow cats in the house. It is sad, homesick Tania who finally changes Papa's mind.
