I have loved this movie since I saw it in the theater at about 22. It's not for everyone - being a period piece and not full of 'action' - in the book the action is the changes to the characters. It's lyrical and subtle and about taking a chance and opening oneself to change, hope and love. About transformations and finding understanding and friendships in unlikely places. I've seen it about 6 times and it never fails to make me happy.

Michael Kitchen is a standout no matter what roles he tackles, but I was delighted to find this old gem. The story is timeless and the acting 'interesting'. Joan Plowright was outstanding.

I first saw this movie many, MANY years ago (I think on TV!) and it was such a delight to come across it, quite by accident, once again. It'll make you want to drop everything and flee, immediately, to a villa by the sea...

The dumbest movie I have seen in a long time.
This is an overacted British farce.

Lovely movie. I liked it so much I bought my own copy. The book is great also.

What could be better on a disenchanted February day than Enchanted April? Share this rush of beauty and happiness with someone you love.

My husband and I saw Enchanted April in the theater when it was first released. We enjoyed it so much we saw it a second time...and a third time! We've never done that before. In 1992, this movie resonated with me on so many levels. Now, 20+ years later, I find it is still my favoite movie of all time. It's heart-warming, funny and definitely not just a "chick flick." After seeing Enchanted April, you'll want to pack your bags for Portifino!

In my forties, I had wanted a different denoument to the film. But now, in my late 60's, I think it is just perfect. And best of all I got to fall in love with Michael Kitchen all over again. Delightful.

I dearly love the book that this movie is based on. The movie is fairly good, but I still greatly prefer the book. It is rare that a movie captures the feeling and content of a book; so much is left out, by necessity. This movie captures some of the feeling of the book, but the book has more detail and depth. I am surprised that there are people who did not enjoy the book but liked the movie. The book never fails to raise my sprits and make me smile.

I hope you're not in the habit of seeing dead people, however distinguished - it's not in the best of taste!
