Good movie about the disturbing and delusional idolisation of sports " stars ", and how this unhealthy obsession with professional sports figures can be damaging psychologically.

Chuckled a few times but didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. My big complaint I don't think I would include here just because it would spoil the story.....

Big Fan is a dark and at times funny comedy. Paul and his best friend are obsessed NY Giants fans. A bar fight with a NY Giant's star player leaves Paul severely injured and in a quandry about whether to press criminal charges. That encounter also leads to a lengthy game suspension for the Giant's star player. The last regular season game between the NY Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles will determine the division champion. A surprise ending salvages an otherwise less than stellar movie.

Believable story about an obsessed NY Giants fan. In the movie, Paul is fully and deeply emotionally involved in the fate of his team. The team fills a hole in his life, and he does not acknowledge the issue. An important character in the movie is Philly Phil, a tough talking Eagles fan. They are two peas on the pod.

A weird and dark "dramedy" that is pretty good. The ending is especially well done.

Fair - Big Fan (2009) 86 min. An interesting concept could’ve been better presented in Big Fan. The story revolves around Paul who’s a huge N.Y. Giants fan to the level of obsession. He and his buddy go to the games but watch them on television in the parking lot (guess they can’t afford the ticket prices). But what happens when his idol Quantrell Bishop, the Giants’ quarter-back, beats him up in a bar – how does he react to the stain clearly visible on his idol? That’s the theme. Unfortunately, the film drags at times and could’ve been punchier throughout despite having memorable characters like his mother and lawyer brother. The film is Robert Siegel’s follow-up to “The Wrestler (2008)”.
